?BIG Promotes Laws and Regulations Regarding Natural Disasters in Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi

Sidenreng Rappang, Geospatial News - Indonesia is a multi-prone country. Starting from earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, floods, tsunamis to liquefaction came and went on a number of areas in this country. No doubt, there was environmental damage and claimed a number of fatalities, the number of which could be very significant. This condition can be anticipated in order to minimize the impact caused by disaster mitigation to make optimal use of the role of Geospatial Information (IG).

In an effort to further introduce the role of the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) as a Non-Ministry Government Institution (LPNK) which is mandated as the organizer of IG in Indonesia (Law number 4 of 2011 on IG), BIG held a socialization event on Legislation Related to Natural Disasters in the Ballroom al Goni Grand Sidny Hotel, Maritenggae District, Sidenreng Rappang Regency (Sidrap) on Monday afternoon, February 18, 2019. This socialization event was a joint event with BIG with partners in the legislature, the DPR RI Commission VII. Around 300 participants were present.

Starting the socialization program, host Andi Pawellangi as Assistant Government and Welfare of the Sidenreng Rappang District Secretariat representing the regent stated that this socialization was very beneficial for the people of Sidrap. Therefore this event must be followed as well as possible. The socialization event held by BIG today coincided with the 675th anniversary of Sidrap district.

"Sometimes disasters occur because of people's behavior. An example is logging that causes flooding. Therefore, the environment must be maintained as well as possible. Let's work together, not only the government, but also all elements of society in Sidrap, "said Andi.

Furthermore, Sugeng Prijadi as BIG Inspector as BIG Primary Leader mentioned that IG was information about the earth space. BIG's job is to make maps in Indonesia, especially base maps. This basic map is used by other agencies to make thematic maps as needed. BIG maps from Sabang to Merauke.

"Mapping a potential disaster is how to use the IG to find out where the areas potentially affected by the disaster. BIG made its basic map, other PUPR ministries, for example, used the map further to make roads and so on. In Indonesia, up to now there have been 16,056 islands named and coordinated and have been registered with the United Nations, "he explained.

Sugeng Prijadi added that during the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Palu and the Sunda Strait in 2018, BIG had a tidal station that measured the rise and fall of sea water for various purposes. Around Sindrap, South Sulawesi, there is also a tidal station to detect possible disasters.

"There are 3 things to the disaster, namely: pre-disaster, during disaster and post-disaster in the form of rehabilitation. By utilizing the IG at each stage of disaster mitigation it can minimize the list and the number of victims due to natural disasters. We are here to thank Mr. Tamsil Linrung from the House of Representatives Commission VII who introduced BIG as the organizer of the IG in Sidrap District. The public can now know that there is an institution that deals with IGs in Indonesia, namely the Geospatial Information Agency, "he said.

Entering the core program of socialization moderated by Franko Joner, the first speaker Fajar Hernowo from the BIG Legal Department explained about "Legislation relating to Geospatial Information". Why does the map have to be updated? This is because there is always a change in the surface of the earth, it could be due to natural disasters, development and so on.

Next to the next speaker was Akbar Hiznu Mawanda as Head of the Legal Aid Subdivision of the Geospatial Information Agency explaining "Friends with Disasters". Akbar said that almost all regions in Indonesia could potentially be affected by natural disasters. Therefore we must be careful with that potential.

"What about in Sidrap? In Sidrap it turns out that it is prone to flooding and earthquakes. How do you know? This is because now there is technology in the field of IG / mapping. It can be accessed at inarisk.bnpb.go.id that BIG is part of it. There are 3 (three) ways to successfully deal with natural disasters, namely: 1. Understanding - Quiet 2. Studying evacuation routes and 3. Emergency Disaster Preparedness Bags (Sibad) ”, he said.

The event was followed by remarks by Head of Bappeda of Sidrap Regency Andi Arsyad. Andi Arsyad said that so far, input and data management were still in the traditional way which often resulted in errors. Data errors will result in errors in planning and decision making. With this BIG, we are asking for assistance in the form of recommendation letters related to IG from BIG for the Sidrap Regency Spatial Planning and Spatial Planning (RTRW).
