Avalanche NATURAL DISASTERS AND LAND IN EARTHQUAKE IN SOLOK Mandailing Natal

Location avalanche catastrophe of this land is administratively located in Sarasah, Kenagarian Cold Water, Gumanti Valley District, Solok regency of West Sumatra Province. By geographic location of this village is 01o 11'15, 5 "LS; 100o 49'03, 5" BT.

Sarasah Hamlet, one of several hamlets in the valley of a structural hills, land cover type existing on the slopes of the hills around the disaster site is a secondary upland forest, scrub, scrub and dry land farming. Land erosion occurs because terjenuhi soil by rain water which fell during the 2 days. On Friday morning of December 15, 2006 at around 04:30 pm, the soil moves down the slope with the volume up more and more affects about 10 homes and 1 mosque. Victims of the landslide is 18 people dead, 11 injured, 60 families were evacuated, about 15 hectares of paddy fields damaged and failed harvests.

This area is included in earthquake-prone areas. One result of the earthquake and rain accompanied the occurrence of landslides. Along the road which is the main route of Padang - Medan, starting area to the Market District Rao Sipongi Estuary, a lot of points there are some areas that experienced landslides.

Another consequence of this earthquake is about 200 buildings heavily damaged, slightly damaged 250 buildings, killed as many as 4 people, 6 were seriously injured and 25 slightly injured. The residents still feel worried about the aftershocks, which can knock down the house, so that their many occupying tents built on the post-post or around the home to live temporarily. Some aid is still flowing as from international agencies and national level both public and private.
