Online map provisioning for planning and site development

UK's geoportal emapsite is offering improved value for planning applicants who search, edit and print detailed site plans and maps straight from the desktop. The company has announced enhanced navigation for the data service it delivers through a partnership with the government's Planning Portal at www.planningportal.gov.uk/buyamap.

Uniquely emapsite provides this service with no registration, search or view charges. Enhanced navigation has made it easier to search for locations and mapping backdrops before marking up chosen sites with a set of drawing tools.

The service, aimed at businesses, public bodies and individuals across England and Wales, allows users to prepare plans at the scales required by local authority planning departments - typically 1:200, 1:500, 1:1000 or 1:1250 scale.

Planning Portal customers are routed to the service using emapsite's Plans Ahead platform to access a suite of data, formats and editing options.

Boundaries can be drawn, area extents and access routes displayed and buildings highlighted, with scope to edit and reposition proposed features against National Grid co-ordinates.

A key aspect of the service is that users require no specialist GIS knowledge. As it is hosted, there are also no data storage worries.

Also among the Plans Ahead product portfolio are aerial photography and various scales of Ordnance Survey raster data to view the surrounding context of the site including 1:10 000, 1:25 000 and 1: 50 000 scales.
