BAKOSURTANAL-UN-ESCAP TCDC held 25th TCDCTraining

Head BAKOSURTANAL R.W. Training officially opened Matindas TCDC "Geoinformation for natural hazards, disaster management and risk reduction" in BAKOSURTANAL Cibinong. Training is organized jointly by UN-ESCAP - BAKOSURTANAL and the Secretariat of State of RI will be implemented during the 2 months of Session I (July 16 to August 11, 2007) conducted in Central and BAKOSURTANAL Education and Training Session II (August 13 - August 31, 2007 ) conducted in PUSPICS Faculty of Geography Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta.

TCDC training is intended for developing countries in Asia Pacific. Participants of this year amounted to 10 people who came from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Lao PDR, Fiji, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Cambodia. The training started in 1976 till now has been to produce graduates more than 200 people and training this year is the 25th.

Objective / purpose of this training is to prepare the various concepts and methodologies geoinformasi technology that will be applied to natural disaster management, exchange of knowledge, expertise and experiences among participants of the training, expand the opportunity for countries in the Asia Pacific region to improve knowledge about disaster management, to strengthen cooperation between Asia Pacific countries in terms of natural disaster management.

In his speech the Head BAKOSURTANAL said, the state - Asia-Pacific countries not only have abundant natural resources but also save a potential natural disaster. Until now, we can not yet sure when a natural disaster will come. With advances in Information and Communication Technology and the development of satellite technology, remote sensing, disaster-prone areas of information expected and natural disaster mitigation efforts can be done using Geoinformasi Technology.

Attending the opening ceremony of TCDC among others, Mr. Wu Guo Chiang Chief Space Technology Applications Section Information, Communication and Space Technology Division, UN-ESCAP, Representative of the Secretariat of State, Secretary of BAKOSURTANAL Sukendra Martha, Deputy Natural Resources Association Surveys Poniman Aris, Deputy Base Mapping Chairul Hafidin, Head of Service Center Services and Information, Diah Kirana and the Head of Topographic Base Mapping and spatial, Puntodewo and other guests.
