Australia Submit Data To Indonesia


Thursday (03/05/2007), AusAID (Australia's aid agency), the Indonesian representative to the BAKOSURTANAL data submitted, the form data in a digital surface elevation model (Digital Elevation Model - DEM) and the ORI, as well as maps and Ikonos and Quickbird image that has been ( corrected in accordance with the geographical coordinates). This data is the result of mapping party along Australia's west coast and east coast of Aceh after the earthquake and tsunami three years ago.

According to Paul Lehman from AusAID, this is the first stage of the agreement have been made with BAKOSURTANAL on 18 May 2006. For phase two, is currently in the tendering process internationally, and will soon be mapping around June this year.

Through the data which is the result of technology mapping with IFSAR (interferometric Synthetic Apperture Radar), can be obtained maps with the scale 1:10.000 and 1:5,000. The map has a detailed scale, where 1 inch on the map is equivalent to 50 meters in the field. This detailed map is needed for Aceh's reconstruction and development, especially for spatial planning and building.

Mapping conducted along the coast of Aceh, an area of 14832.3 square km, covering several counties and cities, among others: Aceh Barat, Nagan Raya, Aceh Barat Daya, Aceh Selatan, Aceh Singkil, Central Tapanuli, Sibolga, East Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, Langsa, Aceh Besar, Pulau We, and all the surrounding islands, Pulau Simeuleue and Nias Island.
