BIG Launches Archive Awareness Movement

Head of BIG Hasanuddin Z. Abidin with Plt. The Head of the Indonesian National Archives (Anri) M.Taufik, M.Si launched the National Geospatial Information Agency (GNSTA) National Geographic Information Movement, on March 6, 2020, at IPB International Convention Center, Bogor.

This declaration is a manifestation of BIG's commitment to raise awareness in the organization of orderly archiving through aspects of policy, organization, archiving human resources, infrastructure, records management, and funding.

"BIG, who has been 50 years old in his journey, has received a lot of Geospatial Information using state funds, of course, must be properly archived," Hasanuddin said in his remarks.

Still according to Hasanuddin, don't forget the old archives, as well as digital Geospatial Information (IG) archives. The archives must be managed and stored properly, so that when needed they can be accessed quickly and easily.

To achieve these objectives requires regulations regarding the management of IG records. BIG, together with Anri and other Ministries / agencies, has conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in managing archives. The results of the FGD will be followed up with the Formation of a Joint Working Team, revision of Regulations that are not yet accommodating, increasing the competence of the IG file manager, and the socialization of the new regulations.

Acting Head Anri M. Taufik stated, archiving in the present concept is the frontline of the institution to provide data and information within the institution and to the wider community accurately.

"Archives are sometimes marginalized, but don't ever feel marginalized and don't ever get tired in developing this country," said Taufik.

Regarding archival human resources (HR), Taufik explained that currently there is a concept of expertise archives, for example experts in IG archives, to support the Advanced Advanced Indonesian HR Program.

This movement requires joint commitment from various lines at BIG. In celebrating this movement, a joint signing of a commitment to good archive management by the BIG Head was followed by BIG 1 and 2 Echelon Officers witnessed by Plt. Chief Anri. Also present at the launching ceremony were representatives from 11 ministries and state institutions that have IG archives. (RKI / MAD)
