BIG Participate in Geotalk 2020

Yogyakarta, Geospatial News - Gadjah Mada University (UGM) held an international geography olympiad titled OLGENAS International Geolympiad XV. Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) supported the Annual Olympics for middle/ high school students, held on January 13-17, 2020.

Beside held the geography olympiad for middle / high school students, OLGENAS, which carries the theme 'Welcoming E-Sphere: A New Way of Thinking Spatially,' also held a series of other activities. One of them is geoTalk. BIG Thematic Geospatial Information Deputy Antonius Bambang Wijanarto acted as the keynote speaker in that talk show. The other speakers are Binar Academy's Co-Founder Seto Lareno, founder and CEO of Gifood Fathin Naufal, and Regional Manager of Southeast Asia MapOps Grab Bayu Yanuargi.

Anton presented a paper called `Technopreneurship in a New Perspective: The use of GIS. Anton began his presentation by explaining that from year to year, Geospatial Information (IG) technology has increasingly improved its accuracy. It certainly makes cartographer easier to determine the position of an object on earth.

"Everything's movements can be known and tracked through a mobile application as an embodiment of IoT (Internet of Things). Not surprisingly, geospatial technology can now be accessed in a portable, real-time, integrated, and supporting various aspects of people's lives, "explained Anton.

However, Anton continued, we need to increase the level of public education to balance the development of geospatial information technology. Because, it's useless to have advanced technology if people do not understand how to access and use it.

"Along with the development of geospatial technology, several other things must be improved. The infrastructure (internet network development), legal and policy (open data and licensing), expertise and skills, research, and development that can identify the needs of the community," concluded Anton.
