Spatial Balance Sheet of Natural Resources for KLHS RPJMD

Gorontalo - Strategic Environmental Assessment needs to be supported by spatial data that is able to describe the condition of natural resources in the Region.

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is an instrument that functions to synergize development with environmental management in order to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals. In its preparation, many spatial data related to natural resources are needed.

Through the Natural Resources Spatial Balance Sheet, BIG is trying to assist the regions in preparing the RPJMD KLHS document.

The Spatial Balance Sheet Socialization Event to Support the KLHS RPJMD, Thursday (09/20/2019) at the Horizon Hotel, Gorontalo City was opened by Gorontalo Province Regional Secretary Darda Daraba. According to Darda "Spatial Balance of Natural Resources is one of our calculation instruments to find out the amount of natural resources".

Darda also advised all participants to pursue the socialization organized by BIG. "I ask the participants of the socialization from each OPD to pursue this activity properly so that the mapping such as the forest balance, land balance, and water balance are well organized"

In the discussion session also explained by the Head of Sub-Directorate for Environment, the Director-General of Regional Development of the Ministry of Home Affairs - Ety Setyorini that "in the selection of methods to prepare the KLHS RPJMD is not rigidly regulated must use one method. Local governments can choose the SEA method according to their capabilities and data availability. Provided the method chosen can be clearly measured "

Ety explained several methods for the preparation of KLHS such as Carrying Capacity, Ecosystem Services, and Spatial Balance.

Each of these methods has advantages and disadvantages, in the context of the Spatial Balance of Natural Resources having the advantages of having clear quantitative measures.

This socialization event was attended by representatives of the Gorontalo Provincial Government, Regency / City Governments throughout Gorontalo Province and Academics who helped the regions in preparing the SEA document.
