Bakrie University visits BIG for the first time

Cibinong, Geospatial News - A total of 53 students of the Information Systems and Environmental Engineering Study Program from Bakrie University visited the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. This visit was one of BIG's efforts to socialize Geospatial Information (IG) and its use to the community.

The group was received by the Head of the Wiwin Ambarwulan BIG Research, Promotion and Cooperation Center. In his remarks, he explained the One Map Policy (KSP) which was launched by President Joko Widodo in December last year.

"This KSP was born when President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked about the area of the rice fields, but no one can answer for sure. Each ministry / agency (K / L) has a different answer. From there came the decision to have one map with one reference used for every decision in K / L, "explained Wiwin in C1-2 Meeting Room, Building C, BIG Office, Cibinong, Bogor.

This decision, continued Wiwin, was followed up during the administration of President Jokowi with the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 9 of 2016 concerning the Acceleration of the Implementation of One Map Policy (KSP) at the Accuracy Level of Map Scale of 1: 50,000. BIG was appointed as the Head of the KSP Implementation Team.

As the Head of the KSP Team, BIG tried its best to create a map, a database, a reference, and a geoportal that became the basis for national development decision-making and planning. Not only that, BIG also plays an important role in the field of disaster.

"We have a Rapid Reaction Unit (SRC) Team that will move to map the affected areas if disasters occur in various regions," Wiwin said.

In addition, BIG also plays a role in determining the boundaries of an area that is done by the Center for Boundary Mapping (PPBW) in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (Ministry of Home Affairs). The determination of this boundary is important because it impacts on the acquisition of village funds.

Meanwhile, Bakrie University Lecturer represented by Siti Rohajawati explained that Bakrie University was only established in 2009. Geospatial information managed by BIG has a lot to do with the Information Systems and Environmental Engineering Study Program.

"We are indeed looking for which agencies are suitable and finally found BIG to be the goal of this visit," explained Siti.

In the material presentation session, BIG Promotion and Cooperation Division staff Dian Ardiansyah explained that BIG was previously named the National Survey and Mapping Coordinating Board (Bakosurtanal). With the passage of Law Number 4 of 2011 concerning IG, the main tasks and functions of BIG have changed.

Following this was Anggi Tiarasani's presentation from the Center for Maritime and Environmental Environment (PKLP) regarding hydrographic surveys. "Hydrographic surveys are activities to obtain information found in territorial waters (rivers, lakes, beaches and seas)," he said.

There are three types of information obtained, which are related to depth, physical characteristics of the waters, and seabed profile or appearance. In this case, PKLP BIG carries out a hydrographic survey in which the data generated is used as material for the creation of the National Beach Environment Map (LPI) and the National Marine Environment Map (LLN).

Next is material related to rappid mapping by Dwi Maryanto from the Thematic Mapping and Integration Center (PPIT). He said that in PPIT BIG there was an SRC Team that was tasked with mapping out disaster related issues at BIG.

"There are four cycles of disaster management, namely preparedness, emergency response, recovery, and prevention and mitigation. "Rapid mapping is needed, especially during the emergency response period, to determine the location of aid and emergency tent locations," he said.

Finally, material from the Head of Nursugi Research Division. He explained how the research at BIG and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It was also explained how the beginning of map making and its development up to now.

The visit was closed with a discussion and question and answer session. Participants are then invited to learn about drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the BIG field. (LR / NIN)
