UGM Geodesy Students Visit BIG

Cibinong, Geospatial News - As many as 50 students of the Faculty of Geodetic Engineering, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) visited the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) on Thursday, February 7, 2019. The visit was aimed at expanding student knowledge so that it was not only limited to academic theory, but also experience to feel firsthand when the theory is implemented in real life.

"Hopefully the students can add insight into the world of work through this visit," said Secretary of the UGM Geodetic Engineering Study Program Abdul Basith when giving a speech at the C BIG Building Meeting Room, Cibinong, Bogor.

On this visit, the students got a number of materials related to Geospatial Information (IG). The first material was delivered by Rohullah Ragajaya from the BIG Earth and Toponym Mapping Center (PPRT).

Raga explained about the elements contained in the Indonesian Earth Map (RBI) as well as the manufacturing process. Including related to carrying out field completeness surveys, RBI map construction schemes, cartographic presentation, and driving.

"The use of IG is not limited to the presentation of data, but also includes analysis in Indonesia's planning and development," said Raga.

The next material was delivered by Arif Aditiya from the BIG Geodesy and Geodynamics Control Network (PJKGG). He revealed that all national GIs needed a single reference system, both horizontal and vertical.

"SRGI 2013 is a geospatial reference system that is used nationally and consistently for the entire NKRI region, and is compatible with the global geospatial reference system. SRGI 2013 consists of horizontal and vertical SRGI, "Arif said.

For two hours students are invited to discuss business processes at BIG, starting from the initial stage to the final stage. The visit ended with a group photo and a souvenir exchange. Hopefully, through this activity can increase the insight of the students related to IG and BIG. (NIN / LR)
