Thousands of 2019 “We Love Map” Map Images Entering the Judging Stage

Cibinong, Geospatial News - The annual map drawing competition organized by the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) has entered the judging stage, more than 1,000 (one thousand) drawings were received by the drawing competition committee secretariat.

This high enthusiasm can not be separated from the theme raised this year, namely "We Love Map". In addition, the winners of the national competition will be sent to the International Cartography Association (ICA) in the Netherlands to participate in the 2019 Barbara Pathenic Award in Tokyo, Japan. The 2019 map drawing competition was divided into 4 (four) categories of participants, namely group A participants (age less than <6 years) B (ages 6-8 years), C (ages 9-12 years) and D (ages 13) -15 years).

For the initial evaluation stage, as many as 1,220 images received by BIG were judged by internal judges with experience as judges in the national drawing competition. The judges included: Priyadi Kardono (Head of BIG 2014-2016), Titiek Suparwati (BIG Main Secretary of 2015 - 2018), Wiwin Ambarwulan (Head of the Promotion and Cooperation Research Center of BIG), Mone Iye Cornelia (Head of Administrative Section for BIG Heads) , and Guridno Bintar (BIG Mapping Surveyor).

Before entering the internal judging stage, the drawings of the participants were thoroughly verified by administrative data by the internal verification team. From the internal verification process, there were 102 pictures of participants who were declared ineligible, (99 pictures did not mention the date of birth, and 3 ages exceeded the competition requirements), so as many as 741 images were declared to have fulfilled administrative verification to be selected by an internal jury.

After following the internal level judging process, the selected images will be judged at the national level judging plan which will be held on March 18-19, 2019, located in Bogor, West Java. The announcement of the winners of the 2019 map drawing contest itself is planned to be announced at the end of March 2019, and the sending of the main winner images (6 pictures) will be made early April 2019 to the ICA secretariat in the Netherlands, before finally being contested at the 2019 Barbara Pathenic Award in Tokyo Japan in July.

The map drawing competition itself is an annual routine activity that has been held by the Geospatial Information Agency since it was named the National Mapping Coordinating Board (Bakosurtanal) in 2003. The purpose of this drawing competition is to give children an early picture of Geospatial Information, especially regarding maps. (AR / LR)
