BIG 22nd "Hand" at Tadulako University

Palu, Geospatial News - Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) continues to expand its reach throughout Indonesia through the Center for Geospatial Information Infrastructure Development (PPIIG) in tertiary institutions, or previously known as the Spatial Data Infrastructure Development Center (PPIDS) based on BIG Head Regulation No. 2 of 2019 about PPIIG. This institution was formed with the aim of assisting in organizing IG in the regions. To date 21 PPIIGs have been formed throughout Indonesia.

As for becoming a PPIIG, tertiary institutions need a minimum of 3 recommendations from local government agencies. Therefore, on Thursday (03/19/19) at the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Tadulako University, a BIG audience was held in the context of establishing PPIIG. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Central Sulawesi Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), the District Bappeda in Central Sulawesi, the Central Sulawesi BMKG, and the Central Sulawesi BNPB. The aim is to explain BIG's tasks and functions in general, as well as PPIIG's duties and functions as an extension of BIG in the regions.

Sri Tampomas from the BIG Center for Geospatial Information and Institutional (PSKIG) BIG, conveyed the role of PPIIG especially in the development of Network Nodes in the regions. In addition, it is also to assist the regions in organizing IG for various development purposes. "If PPIIG has been formed in Tadulako, then regional governments that need assistance in mapping boundaries, formulating spatial plans, other thematic mapping, including building network nodes can directly coordinate with PPIIG Tadulako University," he explained.

Local government representatives who attended welcomed the plan to form the PPIIG. They realized that IG was badly needed, especially after the disaster that occurred in Central Sulawesi. Rearranging cities and districts is almost impossible without the correct map. As an initial form of support, the Regional Government provided recommendations to the University of Tadulako to immediately form PPIIG.

Besides PPIIG, it was also discussed related to the development of the Regional Network Node which is part of the National Network Node. The presentation of this material was delivered by Agus Setiawan, PSKIG BIG Staff. To become a Network Node, local governments must meet the 5 pillars of JIGN, including: Policy, Institutional, Technology, Standards and HR. The five pillars must be fulfilled in order to maintain the sustainability of the Network Node.

"At present the status of the Central Sulawesi Province network nodes is still developing. Geoportal already exists, but institutional and IG data do not yet exist. It is hoped that after this meeting the network node can be optimized. Likewise with the district network node that has not yet been built, so that it will soon be connected and integrated with the national network node, "said Agus.

Continuing the explanation, Suranto from the Promotion and Cooperation Sector of BIG explained that to build a regional network node must have a cooperation agreement first. "This agreement is the basis of the activities that will be carried out, such as the provision of cloud if there is no server available, increasing the competence of regional IG human resources, and so on," he said.

As a follow up to the plan, each regional government present will send a letter of request for cooperation to the Head of BIG. Furthermore, a special network node socialization will be carried out as well as the signing of the collaboration event. The event is scheduled to be held in April 2019.

Then the event was closed with the submission of recommendations from the Palu City Government, Sigi Regency Government, Donggala Regency Government, BMKG Central Sulawesi and BNPB Central Sulawesi to Tadulako University, represented by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Zeffitni. Hopefully this activity will form the next new PPIIG, so that it can become an extension of BIG in the regions. (LNR / LR)
