Resource Survey of Small Island in Maluku Tenggara Barat

Thursday, April 15, 2010, Tim Surveying and Mapping of Natural Resources Small islands will doing an expedition leader on 4 small islands in Maluku Tenggara, Maluku. The fourth island is Larat Island, Island Asutubun, Selaru Island, and Island Bantarkusu.

Teams that have departed from Jakarta on Tuesday (April 13, 2010) has coordinated with related offices in Ambon. The next day, the team moved from Ambon to Saumlaki, the capital of West Southeast Maluku regency located at Yamdena.

On this expedition, Surveying and Mapping Team Pucil SDA will take inventory and mapping of small island coastal natural resources, as well as primary and secondary data compilation ecosystems in the fourth island, in order to support charging island directory.

From this activity, is expected to be obtained 2 data, ie spatial data and data for the directory entry of the island. Spatial data generated are (1) Map of Coastal Ecosystems, which consists of: Mangroves, Coral Reefs (including Fish Reef), and Seagrass, including marine water quality conditions, (2) Land Ecosystem Maps (Coverage Area), including hydrological conditions , (3) Typology Map Island / Coast, and (4) Population Map (among others: population density, population, livelihoods.)

While data for the directory entry in the form of a description of the island of abiotic conditions (soil, geology, and hydrology), biotic (flora and fauna), and population / ethnic group and culture (according to directory entry).

In accordance with the plan, these activities require time during 20 days in the field. The first island as a destination survey and mapping team is Larat Island, was continued to the south of the island Asutubun, then to the island last Selaru and Bantarkusu Island.

Larat Island, planned to be conducted dives in 9 locations around the island. We will do dive iventarisasi, measurement, and sample calculations, based on biotic and abiotic conditions. In addition to surveys conducted at sea, the team also did tracking on the mainland, so that can know the land coverage, profiles of the island, until the description of the population who inhabit the island.

What will be done by the expedition team, maybe not the worst outcome if not they can be utilized best by the relevant parties, both at regional and central governments. Small islands that leadership is the 'vanguard' Homeland forefront that need care and attention all of us.
