The 10th South East Asian Survey Congress (SEASC 2009, 3-7 August) has begun at Nusa Dua on the Indonesian resort island of Bali.
About 200 delegates have heard a welcome address from Rudolf Matindas, the head Bakosurtanal, the National Co-ordinating Agency for Surveys and Mapping in Indonesia.
He told delegates that the theme of the conference, Integrating Geo-information Islands, was especially appropriate in Indonesia, the largest archipelagic country in the world.
He said the challenge for Indonesia was to integrate many islands while retaining the special character of each. This requires mutual collaboration in Indonesia and abroad, he said.
