BIG Accompanied Commission VII of DPR RI to Conduct Work Visit

The Geospatial Information Agency accompanies the Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives to carry out a working visit to Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi. In addition to BIG, following the work visit are the Ministry of Research and Technology / BRIN, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, LIPI, BPPT, LAPAN, BATAN, BAPETEN, Pertamina, PLN, and BPH Migas.

On the first day of the visit, Monday, March 2, 2020, the group was received by the Governor of Southeast Sulawesi Province Ali Mazi in the meeting room of the Governor of Southeast Sulawesi Province's office. At the meeting, the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Parliament, Regent, and Mayor in the Southeast Sulawesi Province were also present.

The House of Representatives Commission VII discussed the problems faced by Southeast Sulawesi, especially in the energy sector. As a developing province, Southeast Sulawesi has the potential to become the center of the national mining industry, considering its mineral resource reserves.

"To support the economic growth, Commission VII will encourage revision on Law No.4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining to provide certainty, ease, and optimization of state revenue from the sector," explained a member of the House of Representatives Commission VII of the Republic of Indonesia at the same time Chairman of the Working Visit Team Eddy Soeparno.

Southeast Sulawesi Governor Ali Mazi revealed that the mining potential in Southeast Sulawesi reached one billion tons. This potential has not been well utilized due to policies that make it challenging to mine permit auctions.

"We are impeded by documents that have been submitted to the central government. Until now, it has not been completed due to complicated conditions, "Ali Mazi said. (MS/MAD)
