Sand Dunes Run 2019 Boosts Yogyakarta Tourism Potential

Yogyakarta, Geospatial News - The Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) is holding a marathon across the Parangtritis Beach sandbanks on Sunday, October 27, 2019. This activity is a series of commemoration of BIG 50th Anniversary.

The marathon entitled The Royal Jogja Sand Dunes Geospatial Run 2019 was also enlivened by the Visit In Sand Dunes Festival (VisaFest). The event which successfully attracted thousands of participants and the surrounding community is expected to become a regular event every year.

"Sand Dune is one of the national tourism assets. Therefore, The Royal Jogja Sand Dunes Geospatial Run 2019 is an event that should be appreciated to increase the value of tourism while maintaining the sustainability of Sand Dune," said Regional Assistant III of Bantul Pulung Haryadi Regency at the opening of VisaFest in Parangtritis Geomaritime Science Park (PGSP).

On this occasion, BIG Chief Hasanuddin Zainal Abidin expressed his appreciation to all those who had worked hard to realize this event. "The Royal Jogja Sand Dunes Geospatial Run 2019 is a form of BIG's commitment to preserve the cultural, educational and tourism potential in Gumuk Pasir," he said.

Meanwhile, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Mangkubumi who also attended acknowledged The Royal Jogja Sand Dunes Geospatial Run 2019 and VisaFest were interesting and rare events because they were held on sandbanks. "This event can be an effective educational tool to the community related to the existence of Gumuk Pasir which is a world cultural heritage," he concluded. (AR / NIN)
